$10,000 to support our young people

By offering a donation of $10,000, the Union des municipalités du Québec (UMQ) will allow the Ungava Tulattavik Health Center (CSTU) to further help young people from the DPJ placed in rehabilitation centers to flourish and regain control of their destiny. The money will be used to help young people with the life project towards autonomy. It is by contributing, among other things, to the payment of a month's rent or the purchase of groceries, furniture, kitchen utensils or even bathroom accessories that young people could be more comfortable in their very first apartment.

In front of the Kuujjuaq youth center, on a beautiful sunny day, teenagers living in the Saturvik group home gather with Nathalie Lalonde, director of regional rehabilitation services for young people with adjustment difficulties. Even from behind, to maintain their anonymity, the five girls and five boys were very impressed by this initiative and delighted to pose to highlight the generosity of the UMQ.

This is the second time that the UMQ has contributed financially to the well-being of young people in the region. In 2020, the UMQ offered $2,000 to rehabilitation centers located in Salluit and Inukjuak for the purchase of sports equipment.

It is always a pleasure to receive donations, but what is even more gratifying is that these donations are dedicated to a vulnerable clientele, destitute, often forgotten and left to fend for themselves for lack of services adapted to their needs, necessary requirements or parental support. These young people who have experienced mistreatment, abuse of all kinds or abandonment need us to think about them and help them. Thus, donations are a boost that offer them a little sweetness in a journey full of suffering.

Daniel Côté, President of the UMQ and Mayor of Gaspé

The UMQ is proud to support young people in rehabilitation centers in Nunavik, in collaboration with its partner DHC Avocats. Since 2009, more than $130,000 has been donated to 13 regional youth center foundations to support various self-sufficiency projects for young people from the DYP, as part of our Bridge to Tomorrow initiative. The future of these young people is a collective responsibility and municipalities can act as agents of social change. We invite companies, organizations and people who, like us, have this important cause to heart to give generously and thus make a concrete difference in the lives of these young people, everywhere in Quebec.
