After the many positive comments made following the integration of works of art in the new CLSC in Aupaluk in 2023, it is the turn of the Inillavik Transit of Kuujjuaq to welcome a major donation offered to the UTHC by the Art for Healing Foundation.
This generous gesture will allow visitors waiting for care, employees and the community to better appreciate the rich culture, history and traditions of Northerners.
All artworks were created by Indigenous and Inuit artists. They bear witness to the life of the northern peoples. The identification plaques installed next to the artworks present information about the image, the artist, and highlight the rich cultural heritage of the people of the North.
The collection includes several stone engravings by Tivi Etock, an artist from Nunavik, including the one entitled The Torngats Came Knocking in the Night and a work by Kakula Saggiaktok who returns to the North after several years spent in southern Quebec. The artwork was given as a thank you to Dr. Marc-André Lévesque who worked for several years of his life to treat Northerners. The estate of the late Dr. Marc-André Lévesque donated the artwork Seals and birds to the Art for Healing Foundation so that it could return to its origins.
The Art for Healing Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Earl Pinchuk and Gary Blair in 2002 and whose mission is to bring the healing power of art to hospitals and wellness facilities, transforming public and patient areas into inspiring environments that encourage a sense of serenity and hope for patients, their families, and healthcare providers. Since its inception, the Foundation has installed over 14,500 works of art in 102 healthcare institutions across Canada, France and England.
