This holiday season, the Wellness Program at the Ungava Tulattavik Health Center is making a meaningful impact through its Christmas baskets initiative.
The project, aimed at addressing food insecurity in Kuujjuaq and fostering a sense of community, exemplifies the spirit of sharing, joy, and collaboration between the community and hospital services.
On December 9 and 10, the program successfully sorted and delivered Christmas baskets to 80 households in Kuujjuaq. Each basket contained all the essentials needed to prepare a festive Christmas supper. Thanks to additional funding from the Health Board, the team was able to partially cover the expenses for this heartwarming initiative.
The project extends beyond Kuujjuaq, reaching all six other communities along the Ungava coast. Led by dedicated Wellness workers and Social Workers, the deliveries in these communities are planned for December 16-20, pending the arrival of food supplies. Here is the breakdown of households benefitting in each community:
In Kangiqsualujjuaq, the initiative saw a remarkable collaboration with the Qarmaapik Family House, which provided both financial and logistical support. Together, they reached an impressive 120 families, with sorting and deliveries taking place on December 9, 10, and 11. This effort was led by the new Wellness worker, Ellasie Annanack, in partnership with CSLC staff, Qarmaapik staff, and NV's support.
The Wellness Program’s Christmas baskets project demonstrates the power of community collaboration and the dedication of our teams to bringing joy and support to families during the holiday season. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this initiative a success!
